About

Painter from Chicago, Illinois, USA:

My work is primarily landscapes in transition from the dark, quiet hours before or after activity. I'm more interested in the city itself, and documenting the fuzzy boundary between wilderness and civilization. That introspection that comes with the isolation of a usually busy street empty, or the unseen coyote passing through your bus stop.

Nighttime scenes are my jam, easier to paint, and the bridges, neon, and illuminated windows above empty sidewalks give a contradictory feeling of both human connection and disconnection, depending on where you find yourself in it.

My stuff is usually in dark palettes with high contrast colors, or subtle suggestions of light and form, shifting from neutral to obnoxious.  A warm dark forest you can barely make sense of, or a a hot pink industrial landscape that feels like a surreal dream.

Landmarks turn from physical structures to emotional, chronologic anchors, and with luck, a connection to you, dear viewer.
